Curating a Board Discussion to Set the Vision for Five More Years of Growth

Client: Major UK Football Club

Challenge

After a successful five-year period during which the client significantly improved facilities, revenues, managed costs effectively and were promoted twice (!) the club wished to set an ambitious new Mission Statement to drive growth and development over the next five-year plan period.

It was important that the entire Board were aligned and we were asked to facilitate a full day Board away-day session to help the team review the situation, assess strengths and weaknesses, clarify key priorities from all stakeholder perspectives and agree a new Mission Statement and the basis of the strategy required to deliver it.

Approach

  • Depth interviews with key C-Suite players to understand context and key issue / opportunity areas in advance of the working strategy session

  • Development of a compelling workshop agenda and workbook

  • Facilitation of the event, chairing the session ensuring that every Board member had their voice heard, driving consensus and encouraging the team to identify key future strategy agenda and related growth drivers

  • Working up a full workshop output pack to play back key agreements and working outlines

Outcome

  • Future Mission Statement agreed unanimously by Board members

  • Key strategic and investment priorities articulated and outline action plans formulated
