Contemplating A Remote Possibility

Chinese workers isolated at home as a result of the Coronavirus are using a range of remote working tools to keep working.

Elsewhere in the world, others are doing it simply because they can. Fewer people commuting to and from an office remote from their homes is arguably positively impacting personal productivity and wellbeing and reducing carbon footprints at the same time.

With enabling technology set to accelerate the trend, the question is whether organisations with legacy systems and management practice have the skills to manage a dispersed workforce effectively. Can they maintain the cohesive company cultures which are often an integral component of their corporate brand value? And what about the price of the fixed costs tied up in their increasingly under-utilised bricks and mortar assets?
