Strategic Imperative: “A World Without Dementia”
We started working with our first charity client, the Alzheimer’s Society, in 2015. It is one of the UK’s largest, boasting over 2.5 million ‘Dementia Friends’ and thousands of volunteers, all of whom are integral to the delivery of the society’s service proposition. Their vision is ‘a world without dementia'. Given the UK alone estimates around 46.8 million people are living with dementia and having personal first-hand experience of how devastating dementia can be, we found this to be a compelling vision indeed.
The CEO and Senior Leadership Team were looking to develop a new five-year strategic plan to drive the organisation forward. There was the need to create a clear strategy for achieving their goal and to align the senior team and Board behind a compelling plan to deliver it.
Successful execution of the new plan relied on a number of strategic initiatives with the potential to create a social movement, which would enable people affected by dementia to lead the lives they want and propel the Alzheimer’s Society to becoming the most respected and influential organisation of its type anywhere in the world.
Together we identified the strategic initiatives, each owned by a member of the Senior Leadership Team, which would provide the driving force for delivering on the strategy. We helped them individually to shape the agenda for each initiative, establish a target operating model, test the thinking, develop the business case to support investment decisions and identify meaningful KPIs to track and manage project delivery.
We worked with the Senior Leadership Team to help engage the Board of Trustees on the strategy, which they enthusiastically endorsed.
Afterwards, we continued to support them across a range of areas which would all contribute to their success in delivering ‘a world without dementia’, including organisational design, a new performance management framework and the development of their digital strategy.
We are proud of our contribution to the society and look forward to seeing the impact of their strategy implementation. ‘A world without dementia’ is no doubt a vision to which we would all subscribe.
